Toy Story

I always knew that little boys have a fascination with super heroes or cartoon characters, but I always wondered how that came to be. When I knew I was having a boy, I was curious to find out who Owen would latch on to ...... enter Buzz Lightyear. Owen got all 3 Toy Story DVD's for Christmas and it was love at first sight. He loves Buzz Lightyear and everything or anything having to do with Toy Story. He loves to run around the house pressing the imaginary laser button on his forearm and making those gun noises that I'm convinced only boys know how to do. Is this an ability they are born with?? Just imagine him running around in his undies, shooting his laser, shouting "to iffitity and beyonnd!" It's quite precious actually. He's learned all their names and we talk about his new Toy Story friends throughout the day, "Where's Woody? He's with Bo Peep, yeah!" (Owen ends almost every sentence with 'yeah'). It makes this new stage in life really fun because there is clearly something he is very into and it makes imagining and playing more exciting. Don't worry - he has real live friends that he plays with too :-)

Another hobby of Owen's is singing. He loves to sing and does so all throughout the day, it makes for a very cheerful home! His favorite of course is "Holy, Holy, Holy" (in Owen language its actually "Hoyee, Hoyee, Hoyeeeee" - doesn't say "L's" so well) and its like there is a repeat button on him that I have yet to locate and turn off, because he will sing it over and over and over! I need to sneak up on him one of these days and take a video of it. He's definitely got an ear for music and sounds. He's starting to learn the different instruments and identify them when he hears them in a song. "Piano! Guitar! Biolin! (that would be Violin) Flute!" He also has discovered his echo and anytime we walk into a room that is empty or very quiet he immediately wants to see what the echo sounds like. He'll say "ah! ah! ah!" and with satisfaction look at me and say "It's echoing, Mama, yeah!"

When we are at home we are continuing to work on the alphabet, specifically lowercase letters since he already knows the capital letters. We are starting to learn the 2nd half of Psalm 23 and memorizing the 1st commandment. He really soaks in all of these things, so I figure I'll strike while the irons hot! I did wonder the other day if I was teaching him too much too soon, because what is he going to do when he gets to preschool and he's learning for a week that "A is for Apple"? I can see him thinking "Yes - A is for Alligator too, and the A says Ahh. When is it time to play??" Hahahah - I guess teaching him humility and patience needs to start coming in a little stronger, yeah? (wow - I'm doing it too!).

I'll try to update this at least weekly, if not more as funny things happen around here with this crazy little guy running around.

  1. I hope you keep up the blog, it is fun to read. It was fun having Owen and Allie play together, if only it could happen more often.

  2. Yes, they all loved the echo in the new room - especially before the carpet came in. "Ah, ah, ah". . . . "it's echo-ing"!

  3. His "is an echo!" face is also quite humorous.

This blog is going to be really cute, Kim :)

  4. I love reading about the adorable Owen! Seriously, that kid just melts me! Keeping up a blog is a little time consuming but I am so glad I have been doing it and I love looking back and reading the things Lily was doing months ago that I would have completely forgotten about. Can't wait to read the next post!
