Costco

Owen is my little 'To Do List' sidekick and his favorite errand is Costco! He LOVES Costco (and who doesn't!?) Ever since he was a little baby he's loved all the action and the big lights. His first word was 'light' and when we went to Costco I can't even count the times he said 'yight! yight! yight!' over and over! He knows how to 'read' the word Costco and whenever he opens my wallet he takes out my Costco card and says "It's Costco Mama!". One time my mom was babysitting him and took him there on an errand and much to her suprise and shock as soon as she pulled into the parking lot he shouts "Costco!!" She said, "I think you go there too much." :-)  Here is an example from today.....

I know Owen's love for Costco will only increase because believe it or not, he has no idea that they give away FREE food. This will be quite a mind blowing realization when he finds out that he can mooch off of each sample station we pass. Anytime Owen is around someone with food, he immediately becomes their best friend because best friends share their food right?? I'm expecting him to start doing what his Uncle Tom does and when he wants something say "I love sharing, sharing just makes me so happy. Sharing is my favorite." Warning: If you share food with Owen, you will no longer have a name. You will forever be "Pretzel Lady" or "Granola Bar" because instead of seeing your face he will envision you as a huge life size pretzel.

Lately, Owen has gotten much more outgoing on our little trips out (I know some of you didn't think that was possible) and he has gotten into the routine of introducing himself and me to each person he comes into contact with. He will say, "Hi! Hi! Hola!" (not stopping until they acknowledge him) Then he says pointing to himself with eyebrows raised, in a very serious tone, "Mine Owen". And if they are nice they will laugh and say "Hi Owen" and very satisfied he will then point to me and say "This Mama". Then he will continue the conversation of small talk saying "happy nice to see you" or "I'm two". I'm sure these conversations could go on for quite a while if I didn't cut them him off and say "Okay, say adios." So then he waves and says "Adios! See you later!"   It's especially awkward when he's trying to get someones attention and they ignore him and he's yelling halfway down the Costco aisle "Hi!! Hiii!" Awkward moment of the week: Sam has a friend named Josh, who Owen likes to talk about. Well, Josh is Korean and the other night when we were out Owen came in contact with an Asian gentleman. Without hesitation he said "Hi Josh!! It's Josh!" It was very hard to control my laughter and we ran away as quickly as we could. I guess in his world all Koreans are named Josh.

I'm thankful for such a friendly and outgoing little boy and that his conversation skills have become much more relevant and normal. About 6 months ago any time he would say hi to someone and they would respond he would immediately say 'birthday cake!' hahahahah! Every single time!! It left people quite puzzled so I would have to go on to say that he recently had a birthday and he really liked his Elmo cake. Needless to say, I am very glad that he has learned how to properly greet people and make conversation with them. However, I need to start teaching him about "Stranger Danger" because I could see him being the kind of kid that is so trusting that everyone is nice and he'll talk to some stranger all the way to their van with no windows if they promise to give him a 'pop'. Good thing I never let him out of my sight right!?

Love this little boy!
