Just Keep Swimming

Friday, to Owen, is a very exciting day. No, it's not because he goes to school every day and Friday is the sign of the weekend to come, or because he has great weekend plans to look forward to or that he even knows what a weekend is (it's okay Owen, neither does the Dowager Countess of Grantham). Friday - is swimming lessons. Owen has had private swim lessons at Aquatic Explorations for about 10 months now and he is really making good progress! It is a small indoor pool that is always heated to a comfortable 85*. Their primary goal is to make the child safe in the water so the first skills they learn are a back float and 'rolls' (turning over from front to back). This is ingrained in them so that they learn that floating on your back is your safety net in case you fall into a pool or are swimming and start losing breath....roll to your back and catch your breath. I've really been very impressed with their entire approach and Owen has really thrived these last few months. His teacher, Ms. Domonique, is fantastic. She is firm and commands his attention, but is also fun and silly when the time is right. He surprises us all with his ability to hold his breath the entire length of the pool - no signs of preemie lungs anymore!! He's learning how to swim freestyle now that he has the basic safety skills down. It's very exciting to watch him!

Some pictures from last Friday's lesson:

And a few videos:

And a cannon ball at the end of each lesson :)
