Owen has learned the art of reverse psychology.... or at least the 2 year old version of it. Lately instead of asking for something by saying, "Mama, can I have some milk please?" he will say, "Do you want some milk baby?" or "Are you hungry baby?" or "You're sleepy babe?". I realized that he is phrasing it in this way so that I will repeat him (which at first, I found myself doing!) and say "Oh are you hungry baby?" and he would respond with "yeah- mine is." He's learned to mimic what I say, so that I will then be prompted to ask him if he wants what he wants me to ask him if he wants.... that is so confusing. At first, he was too smart for mama and after about 2 days I caught on (yes two days...it was on "Do you want candy baby?" that the clouds parted and I saw the light). He's a clever one and I need to start watching out for his sneaky sly ways. I have no idea where he gets this from, I have not an ounce of sneaky-ness in me (don't ask my parents for the red licorice story from when I was 4 or 5). The other sneaky thing he's been doing is pretending to be hurt in order to get out of what he is supposed to be doing. Whether it is coming when he's told or cleaning up his toys or playing in his room, he will either 'fall' and say 'oooh are you hurt baby?' (hahaha) or he will come out of his room and say 'kiss it mama?' (pointing to whatever fake injury he has picked for that moment). I too had my own creative ways of getting out of things when I was little, hiding in the bathroom for example, which my sisters never fail to bring up at a family gathering, "yeah and we did everything because Kim would just go hide in the bathroom". Who me?? I'm not sure what planet the people that say "oh, children are so innocent" live on. No way jose! They either don't have children, or they are in denial. They keep mamas on their toes with their sly ways and lest we all forget that Adam's sin was imputed to every human being ("Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to ALL men because ALL sinned" -Romans 5:12) . Makes me more convicted to teach him of his state before the Lord and the urgency for repentance and faith in Christ.
Here is an Owen-ism I've noticed recently. You know how every normal person runs with their arms at their sides, hands in fists, etc.? Owen has observed this practice and it's hilarious to watch him run because he over exaggerates that movement and shows us that he can run like a big boy saying "Mine Running!". It actually looks like he's punching his arms as he's running (no he has not seen Rocky, but I know you are all humming "Gonna Fly Now" in your head now). Here is how it looks:

Ha! So funny! I love the running and the reverse psychology. :) These kids of ours are a little too smart for their own good, I think. :)
