All summer long Owen has asked every Sunday morning while he's getting dressed for church if "today is Sunday School time?" This past Sunday it was FINALLY time! Much to the relief of his excited heart, and Mama's fading patience of being asked all the time. ;-) He already knew that his teacher would be Mrs. Mills and he greeted her with great enthusiasm! I don't think that after the above picture was taken he looked back even once to see if we were still there! When we picked up him from class later he was eager to show us the craft he had made and tell us all about the 'rock house' he built (Matt. 7:24). Took me a while to figure that one out. He also can already say his memory verse "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1. He's very excited to go back next week! I'm so thankful for these Sunday School teachers that take time to prepare and plan lessons for these little ones to plant the seeds of the Gospel in their little hearts.

(he had his hand behind his back like that the whole time -cute!)
Another new thing that Owen and I do every morning is have what he calls, "Calendar Time!!!!!!!!!" Which is not nearly as exciting as all those exclamation points might lead you to believe. Owen has been very curious lately about what day it is and since he's always looking forward to things coming ahead I figured it would be a good time start learning the days of the week. Every morning after he's dressed he sits on his bed while we have "Calendar Time" and he watches me change what day it is today, and what day it will be tomorrow, along with what the weather will be outside (let's be honest, 90% of the time I'll never have to take the "sunny" card down). Then Owen gets to put the new date up, and he is very picky about it being lined up with the ones next to it which really tests my patience so early in the morning. ;-) Then he sits back down and I play Vanna White as I point to the day and say "Today is Ttt..." he says "Tuesday!" I point to the month and he says "September!" and I point to the date and say "Thhhh....." "Furteeeeen!" (then we interrupt the lesson with having him look at how my tongue presses on my teeth when I make the Th Th Th sound). Its really a very simple activity, but he's beginning to look forward to it each morning. I've already had someone say "oh, are you starting to homeschool him for preschool?" The answer to that would be no, We plan to send him to school. I'm just doing the normal things that a mother teaches her child and just happen to have a fancy calendar to do it. :-)
As I had mentioned in the last post, Owen is very into the Beatrix Potter series and Peter Rabbit specifically. He's starting to memorize the book (just like his Aunt Jill) because we read it so often. His favorite part seems to be when Mrs. McGregor puts Peter's father into a pie, he always tells that part with really big eyes. I'll have to get it on video soon. The funniest thing was that he was complaining of a stomach ache the other night and, because he had no reason to have a stomach ache, nor any other symptoms, I said "uh oh, I'm sorry honey, I don't know what to do for you." Well he knew EXACTLY what to do and said, "I think I'll look for some Parsley". Let's hope that he won't always refer to Peter Rabbit to find a cure for his ailments. On second thought, I wonder if Peter Rabbit discovered the cure for Lupus in Mr. McGregor's garden...Hmmmmm, must investigate.
Owen's favorite book of the week : The Tale of Peter Rabbit (duh)
